Apps4VA’s Little History

Education data is used in so many ways—like generating reports on enrollment or finding ways to reduce classroom overcrowding. We think it can be so much more powerful. Apps4VA is a program that engaged the public in developing fresh and innovative ideas on how to use education data and to develop the tools to do just that!

Apps4VA at JMU alum Jamie Martin recently finished refining the Cool School app and it is now available to the public!

Nearly 300 Participants – 8 events – >100 Apps – 2 Education Related Startups!

Apps4VA has sponsored a number of public events that involved people across industries and sectors, from education to programming to entrepreneurs and beyond. Over the course of the program, nearly 300 participants in eight events (Startup Weekend EDU, four simultaneous hackathons, an open competition and two university challenges) developed more than 100 new cutting-edge, education-focused apps and launched two new education-related startups.

INSIGHTS CONFERENCE – Insights, updates, research and more…
In June, Apps4VA will be sponsoring the third Insights Conference, to continue raising awareness of VLDS and to link communities of data providers with data consumers. Sessions will include the latest findings and updates on VLDS research, how VLDS has revealed a college degree’s true value, and intriguing new insights from the entrepreneurial, early childhood, and workforce communities. And, for those interested in seeing the VLDS at work, there will a demo of the system. Where else would you find all this and more in a single day? It’s not too late to register for this year’s conference. To see the full agenda and for more information on the conference, visit the Insights Conference page.
