NoVA EDU Startup Weekend
Highlighting VLDS Data
June 1-3, 2012
Microsoft Offices in Reston, VA
Join other teachers, developers, designers and entrepreneurs to
participate in an intense 54 hours to develop businesses and apps.
In June 2012, more than 100 people gathered to pitch an idea for an education-related business based on the VLDS data. Attendees formed teams, further developed top ideas and competed for a top spot! Typical attendees included entrepreneurs, developers, marketing professionals, business people and teachers who brought their ideas and enthusiasm. Startup Weekend is a crazy, chaotic, fun way to create something that will last.
Teams consulted with dynamic mentors from a number of sectors to help advance their ideas and businesses. At the end of an intense 54 hours, after we had an opportunity to witness the amazing transformation
from Friday night ideas to Sunday night businesses, teams presented their education businesses to be evaluated by an exciting panel of judges! The NoVA EDU Startup Weekend panel of mentors and judges were registered members of the investment community, high level education officials, successful entrepreneurs and other “movers and shakers” in the technology community who were available for questions and advice. And, just in time for the event, the Virginia Department of Education made unique datasets available for those who wanted to develop a business based on other sound educational data.
Registration is now closed, but we plan to do it again next year! If you would like to be part of a team or have an idea for a business and would like an opportunity to meet a wish list of
some of the people who can help to make it happen, this is your chance to attend a once in a lifetime event.
